        Yes shingles can be prevented, and even more there is a vaccine now to help this matter. Some of the people that had chickenpox may develop shingles later on so it is the best thing to get that vaccine done.

        The name of the shingles vaccine is Zostavax and the recommended dosage is one dose for people that are older than 60 years old. Prevention of singles include avoiding contact with people that have shingles or chickenpox and blisters of shingles.
The varicella-zoster vaccine (Zostavax) does not guarantee the prevention of shingles but will reduce the risk nevertheless. The vaccine is not recommended if you ever had a serious disease that weakened your immune system or receiving medical treatments such as steroids or chemotherapy and radiation. If you have a mild cold is it all right to hace the vaccine.
